Duck

Duck is known for its welcoming, small-town feel, great restaurants and of course its beautiful beaches.  In fact, Duck is nationally-recognized as one of the "Top 15 Family-Friendly Beaches in America".

What's in a Name?

Origin of the name – hunters and gatherers have been coming to this area since the 1800's due to its abundance of…you guessed it…ducks!

One of the most popular attractions for locals and visitors alike is the Duck Town Park and Soundside Boardwalk:

  • The Town Park is situated on 11 acres of natural beauty, including trails through the maritime forest, open green space, sound views, and Duck Boardwalk access.

  • The Duck Boardwalk extends nearly a mile along the Currituck Sound and can be accessed from the Town Park and other locations throughout the Town's Village Commercial District. The boardwalk allows residents and visitors alike to enjoy the beauty and nature of the area, visit some retail establishments and restaurants, or just relax and enjoy the day.

Duck's most well-known annual event, the Duck Jazz Festival, takes place every Columbus Day weekend.  This event is non-ticketed and free to the public. Food and drinks are available to purchase from town eateries and chairs are available for rent. Attendees may also bring food, coolers, chairs, blankets and well-behaved dogs.  This year's event is scheduled for October 7-8, 2023.

Most neighborhoods in Duck run ocean to sound and offer the best of both worlds - beach days served by private beach accesses and sunsets in the evening over the sound.
